Deciduous native shrub 6 to 10 feet tall found along streams or moist slopes. Exotic summer flowers 2 inches across and reddish brown, reminiscent of water lilies. Sun or part shade, ordinary garden care. It can be pruned into a small tree. Bay Area native.
